WEBINAR 2021: Accelerated Broadband Program

An estimated 700,000 households in Ontario lack access to basic broadband connectivity. This represents some 1.4 million Ontarians who do not have access to reliable high-speed internet, a service as important as reliable electricity for participating fully in today’s workplace, educational institutions, telemedicine opportunities and online commerce. While Ontario has been working to expand broadband throughout the province for several years, COVID-19 has amplified the essential nature of high-speed connectivity and exacerbated the disadvantages a lack of internet access presents.

In response to this demand, the Ontario government has launched a series of new and proposed legislative Acts, and dedicated substantial funding, to create the
Accelerated Broadband Program. This program will define a new, more coordinated process for expediting the installation and modification of infrastructure required for the provisioning of broadband services, and will be supported by performed at the One-Touch Make-Ready policies aimed to avoid delays and redundancies by having all make-ready work same time by a single crew.
